Deborah Illingworth has been painting for the past ten years, first in pastels and more recently in oils. Ina former life she was a graphic artist but since moving to the Awhitu Peninsula from Auckland she has concentrated on fine art.
She paints Dramatic landscapes under brooding skies and portraits full of portent. She paints New Zealanders in New Zealand landscapes. Her pictures have pathos, a quiet sadness reminiscent of “The Theatre of Unease” which colours much of our art. She is a regional artist and a symbolist.
